Royal wedding honeymoon: William and Kate postpone honeymoon

Prince William and Kate delay foreign honeymoon as Prince William returns to work next week after bank holiday break in Britain.

Prince William and his new wife Kate Middleton have decided not to depart for their honeymoon immediately and have instead opted to spend the weekend in the UK, St James's Palace announced today.

It had been thought that the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would take two weeks off for the traditional post royal wedding break.

Royal wedding update: William and Kate leave Burkingham palace by helicopter

Prince William and his new wife Kate Middleton left Buckingham Palace by helicopter this morning.

It is expected that they will first travel to one of the royal residences in Scotland, possibly Balmoral, where both the Queen and the Prince of Wales have private homes they could use.

William and Kate began their journey by emerging hand in hand from the palace's garden entrance, located at the side of the imposing building.

In bright sunshine, they strolled along the gravel path and out into the open space where the maroon helicopter was waiting.

Royal wedding: Pippa Middleton shines as maid of honour

All eyes were on the bride, but Pippa Middleton yesterday attracted worldwide attention as a stunning maid of honour.

Miss Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister, was the picture of elegance in a form-fitting dress. It too was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, and the simple lines perfectly complemented the Duchess’s intricate bridal gown.

The 27-year-old had pulled off that most difficult of tricks: looking fantastic without upstaging the bride.

How the world's media reacted to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton

The royal wedding round the world

FRANCE

An estimated two million viewers tuned in to television coverage of the royal wedding in France, where presenters described it as "the marriage of the century".

The main evening news programme on France's most watched television station TF1 opened, not with the terrorist bomb blast in Marrakesh which killed 16 people, including six French citizens, but the wedding across the Channel. The leading report included coverage from London, reports from British expatriates living in France and even a dispatch from the factory in the north of France that made the lace for Catherine Middleton's wedding dress.

Royal wedding fashion: Hits and Misses

Royal wedding guests can often be so mired in the pomp and ceremony of the occasion that they end up playing it too safe in the fashion stakes. Not so the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton , which provided an opportunity for many a style statement, from both the Royal family and their countless celebrity guests.

Princess Beatrice of York scored well with the fashion pack in her blush, ladylike Valentino haute couture ensemble, topped off with a stunning and contemporary Philip Treacy hat, leaving sister Eugenie somewhat in the shade in her over-fussy cobalt blue Vivienne Westwood gown.

Northern Ireland Celebrates Royal Wedding in style

STREET CELEBRATIONS and house parties across Northern Ireland marked the royal wedding of Prince William, the newly entitled Baron Carrickfergus, and Kate Middleton.

In the Co Antrim town which has given its name to the latest of the prince’s titles there was quiet satisfaction and new hope that the happy couple would visit one day.

After the nuptials in which the prince appeared in the bright red dress uniform of the Irish Guards mayor Jim McClurg said: “It’s an extreme thrill for the people of Carrickfergus to have this honour bestowed on them. It’s taken us completely by surprise. We certainly hope this means we can expect a special royal visitor in the near future.”

Women go for stylish hats at royal wedding

From simple, elegant to elaborate hats enhanced with nets, lace and feathers - women made style statements with hats and other headgear in various shapes and shades at the Westminster Abbey where royal couple Kate Middleton and Prince Williams exchanged wedding vows Friday.

Most of the women guests came in knee-length dresses in neutral to bright shades like blues, pinks, yellows and greens that boasted of elegant cuts and styles and they matched it with hats and other headgear.

Singer-turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham, who was one amongst the first guests to arrive at Westminster Abbey with her footballer husband David, wore a navy blue dress, which she designed herself. She acessorised it with an elegant Philip Treacy pillbox hat and a pair of Christian Louboutin stilettos customised in collaboration with Louboutin himself, reports telegraph .

The Royal Wedding Cake- The Full Details

The wedding cake had a strong British floral theme, using elements of the Joseph Lambeth technique. It was a multi-tiered traditional fruit cake decorated with cream and white icing. The Lambeth technique is based on a style of decorating that was popular in England where chefs and decorators would use a lot of intricate piping to create 3-D scrollwork, leaves, flowers, and other decoration.

The method is still popular today and is frequently used by wedding cake designers and decorators to create ornate wedding cakes. The cake designer Fiona Cairns was chosen in February 2011 to create the wedding cake. Furthermore, McVitie's created a special cake from chocolate biscuit for the reception at Buckingham Palace. The chocolate biscuit cake was made from a Royal Family recipe and was specially requested by Prince William.

Music and Hymns At The Royal Wedding

Music

The bride processed down the aisle to the anthem "I Was Glad," written by by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, from Psalm 122. It was composed for the crowning of Prince William's great-great-great grandfather, Edward VII, at Westminster Abbey in 1902. As the choir sang, the bride made her three-and-a-half minute procession through the Nave and Quire on her father's arm, to meet the Prince. The recessional music was the orchestral march "Crown Imperial" by William Walton, which was also played at Charles and Diana's wedding.

Two choirs, one orchestra and a fanfare team performed the music at the wedding service of Prince William and Middleton at Westminster Abbey. These were the Westminster Abbey Choir, Chapel Royal Choir and London Chamber Orchestra, and a fanfare team of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

Bridal dress

The bridal dress was designed by English designer Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. It was made of satin and featured a lace applique bodice and skirt. Middleton wore her hair down, with her veil held in place by a tiara, loaned by the Queen. The lace, detailing a rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock, was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace.

The bridal train measured 270 cm (110 in), and along with the lace, all other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies. The lace motifs were pinned, "framed up" and applied with stab stitching every 2–3 mm around each one. Workers washed their hands every 30 minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean.

The Royal Wedding-The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

On Friday, 29 April 2011, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge married Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey, at 11:00 am BST (UTC+1). William, who is second in the line of succession to Elizabeth II, first met Middleton in 2001, while both were students at the University of St Andrews. Their engagement, which began on 20 October 2010, was announced on 16 November 2010.

Following the wedding, the couple intend to continue residing on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales, where Prince William is based as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot.

Confirmed: Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress is Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton

Clarence House has confirmed: Kate Middleton's wedding dress is designed by Sarah Burton by Alexander McQueen. The dress, with its long lace sleeves, sweetheart neckline, and full skirt and eight-foot train, is earning comparisons to Grace Kelly's wedding dress. Kate Middleton's wedding dress is an ivory gown with lace applique floral detail

Burton was spotted helping Middleton into her car and adjusting her veil before she headed to the wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey. A team of 60 are rumored to have embroidered the dress, and apparently secret dress meetings were held at Hampton Court Palace.

Kate waves farewell to her life as a commoner

The moment for which Miss Middleton has spent almost all of her adult life preparing will finally arrive when she makes her three-minute walk down the aisle of Westminster Abbey watched by two billion people worldwide.

Up to a million people are expected to line the streets of London for the royal wedding, the most anticipated royal event in 30 years, on what the bride and groom described as “one of the happiest days of our lives”.

Many of the best-kept secrets of the ceremony were finally revealed yesterday when St James’s Palace published the order of service online so that millions of people can join in at home.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will risk getting soaked so crowds can see them in open carriage

Despite gloomy forecasts of showers in London during the morning of the royal wedding, the Prince William and Kate Middleton have instructed staff to stick with “plan A” for a processional carriage ride in an open State Landau even if showers are predicted.

An enclosed carriage will only be used if monsoon conditions are expected.

The bride and groom are fully aware that crowds lining the streets of London – many of whom have camped out for days – will be left hugely disappointed if they can only glimpse the couple through the windows of an enclosed carriage.

A St James’s Palace spokesman said: “The forecast will have to be pretty severe for the wet weather option to be used.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's new titles revealed

Buckingham Palace announced at 8am on Friday that the Queen had bestowed the title of Duke of Cambridge on her grandson.

His bride, Miss Middleton, will be known as the Duchess of Cambridge after the royal wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

A dukedom is the highest rank in the British peerage.

They have also been given the Scottish titles of Earl and Countess of Strathearn, which may reflect the fact that they met at St Andrews University.

Mexican teenager's hunger strike leads to royal wedding trip

A Mexican teenager who went on hunger strike in February in a bid to win an invite to the royal wedding has had her trip to London paid for by a wealthy businessman.

Estibalis Chavez, 19, staged her hunger strike outside the British embassy in Mexico City, in the hope of gaining an invite.

And now a Mexican lobbyist, Octavio Fitch Lazo, has agreed to lend her money for the flight.

Miss Chavez was repeatedly told by British officials that there were no more invitations available, but she refused to be dissuaded.

Kate Middleton's secret pain: I can't be a mum

The popular princess-in-waiting is devastated that she might never have the children she so desperately yearns for.

Kate Middleton is riddled with anguish after realising she and Prince William may never have the family she's always dreamed of.

She is said to be devastated since being told she can't be a mum, and will have to wait until her late thirties.

While Princess Diana was married at 20 and had produced "an heir and a spare" by the age of 23, Kate, 27, will have to put any hope of motherhood on the backburner until career-driven Wills has fulfilled his desire to become an officer.

With a wait of eight to 10 years before she can even begin trying to have a child, Kate is worried she will miss her chance. Certainly, her "dream family" of several children now seems totally out of the question.

A Review of The Movie: William and Kate

Sticklers for detail might have been confused by the opening of William and Kate – the Movie (Channel 5, Sunday), when Prince William’s arrival at St Andrews was introduced by an aerial shot of Christ Church, Oxford. But then, sticklers for detail were never likely to be satisfied by an 87-minute TV movie about the Royal family made for the Lifetime cable network in the US.

This was a St Andrews which its students called ‘school’, where they lived in ‘dorms’. These were rooms with so much dark wood paneling and so many Tudor beams that it would have been no surprise to see Diana Dors pop out in full Hammer Horror costume. And while this movie was ‘based on true events’, it certainly wasn’t based on true hairdos or soft furnishings.

Kate Middleton's Royal Wedding Bouquet

The ceremonial fight for the bride's bouquet is a symbolic, entertaining, and occasionally violent staple of most weddings, but there won't be a throng of eager young ladies queuing up to catch Kate Middleton's lavish flower arrangement on April 29.

British royal protocol dictates that instead of being hurled skyward and giving one lucky and sure-handed girl a superstitious shove toward marriage, Kate's bouquet will come to a far more solemn rest.

As she heads back down the aisle at Westminster Abbey, having completed her nuptials to become either Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales or another title of the queen's choosing, she will take a moment to lay her floral creation at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, a historic grave embedded into the church floor in 1920 to commemorate anonymous soldiers killed at war.

The Royal Wedding Cake

Fiona Cairns- The Cake designer
Prince William and Catherine Middleton have chosen Leicestershire-based cake designer, Fiona Cairns to create their wedding cake.  The wedding cake will be a multi-tiered traditional fruit cake, decorated with cream and white icing.

Fiona Cairns was chosen for her creative style and beautifully crafted handmade cakes using traditional British ingredients.

The cake will have a strong British floral theme using elements of the Joseph Lambeth technique.  The Lambeth technique is derived from a style of decorating where chefs and decorators use a lot of intricate piping to create 3-D scrollwork, leaves and flowers.  It is a popular method frequently used by wedding cake designers to create ornate wedding cakes.

McVitie’s Cake Company will create a chocolate biscuit cake for the reception at Buckingham Palace. The chocolate biscuit cake will be made from a Royal Family recipe and was specially requested by Prince William.

Prince William To Wear Military Uniform For Wedding

In the run up to the Royal Wedding there has been much talk about Kate Middleton’s wedding dress and her choice of designer.

The spotlight has simply not been on William’s outfit, until now!

We now know that Prince William will wear his military uniform, but which one?

Prince William has served in the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force.  He is currently working as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

Both Prince William’s father, Prince Charles, and grandfather, Prince Philip, wore the Royal Navy uniform on their wedding days.

Either way Prince William, in his military uniform, will be a hit with Kate!  ‘Lip Readers’ suggested that she said “I love the uniform, it’s so, so sexy” to a friend, at Prince William’s Army graduation ceremony a few years ago.

Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress

Specific details regarding Kate Middleton's wedding dress have been kept under tight wraps…until now.

While the soon-to-be-newlywed has managed to keep her dress design a secret, London's Daily Mail is reporting she designed the gown herself, drawing on the fashions of the Renaissance period for inspiration.

So, what will the highly anticipated design look like?

The reportedly ivory, satin and lace frock will include a "nod" to the Emanuel wedding dress donned by Prince William's mother, Princess Diana, along with pearl button detail and a 10-foot-train, according to the newspaper.

Libelula label creator Sophie Cranston, who has dressed the likes of Emma Watson and Jerry Hall, is reported to be the designer who turned Middleton's designs into her dream wedding gown.

As for her jewelry, the 29-year-old fashionista will likely wear pearl and diamond earrings, and other borrowed jewelry from Queen Elizabeth.

From 9.50am: Governors-General and Prime Ministers of Realm Countries, the Diplomatic Corps, and other distinguished guests arrive at the Abbey.

10.10am The Bridegroom and Prince Henry of Wales leave Clarence House for Westminster Abbey. They arrive at the Abbey at 10.15am.

10.20am Members of Foreign Royal Families arrive at Westminster Abbey from Buckingham Palace.

Titles Upon Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton

There is only one case of the oldest surviving son of the Prince of Wales marrying before his father succeeded to the throne: the future George V who married Mary of Teck in 1893. He had already been created Duke of York a year earlier, shortly after the death of his older brother brought him directly in line of succession to the throne.
In recent years, several royal princes who did not already have a title were given one upon marriage, including Prince Andrew, who was created Duke of York when he married in 1986. In a break with precedent Prince Edward was created Earl of Wessex; at the same time it was announced that he will be given the title Duke of Edinburgh when that title, currently held by his father, reverts to the Crown.

The Royal Wedding Rings

Middleton will have a wedding ring, which will be made from Welsh gold. Since 1923, it is a tradition in the royal family to use Welsh gold for the wedding ring of the bride. This ring will be made from a small amount of gold that has been kept in the royal vaults since it was originally presented to Queen Elizabeth II. It was once mined from the Clogau Gold Mine in the Welsh mountains, not far away from Anglesey, where the couple live. The Clogau Gold Mine has been closed since the previous century.

Other royals such as Queen Elizabeth II wear wedding rings made from that gold. The Queen has "given a piece of the gold that has been in the family for many years to Prince William as a gift," a palace source says. An expert craftsman, unnamed by the palace but likely to be the Crown Jeweller Harry Collins, has been tasked with fashioning the nugget into a piece for Middleton.

Unlike Middleton, Prince William will not wear a wedding ring. He will not receive a ring from Middleton when the pair exchange vows during the wedding. The prince expressed his wish that only the bride's ring be presented on the day. Married males who stay ringless are not uncommon in royal families. For example, Prince Philip does not wear a wedding ring. Prince Charles wore his wedding ring on the 4th finger of his left hand under his signet ring when he was married to Diana, Princess of Wales, and with his current marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles, his wedding ring is under the signet ring on his 4th finger of his left hand as well.

Broadcast of The Royal Wedding

It has been estimated that the wedding will be watched on television and Internet streaming by some two billion people. ITV have picked Julie Etchingham and Philip Schofield for their coverage. On the day of the wedding Daybreak will be broascast from outside Buckingham Palace. BBC coverage will be hosted by Huw Edwards. CNN is to dispatch a crew of 125 to cover the ceremony.

In the United States, which in the Eastern Time Zone is five hours behind British Summer Time, the wedding will occur within the time usually taken up by network breakfast television programmes. NBC will fold in coverage of the wedding into a special seven-hour edition of Today hosted by that programme's presenters, which will start at 4 am Eastern Time on the 29th and will be carried live across all time zones, and will use footage from ITV, which partners with NBC for UK news coverage.

Official Residence of Prince William and Princess-to-be Kate After The Royal Wedding

Her Majesty The Queen has invited Prince William and Kate Middleton to share Buckingham Palace with her, as their official London residence, to ensure that the Royal couple have a safe and private place to stay after they are married.

If Prince William and Kate Middleton accept the offer they will have a large self-contained section within Buckingham Palace.

Prince Charles has also offered to let William and Kate renovate one of his apartments at St James’s Palace in London.

Royal Wedding Cars and Carriages

Prince William and Catherine Middleton will travel separately to their wedding service using State Cars from the Royal Mews.

Prince William will travel in a Bentley, accompanied by Prince Harry and Catherine will travel in a Rolls Royce, accompanied by her father. Members of the Royal Family and the Middleton family will travel to Westminster Abbey in cars and motor coaches organised by the Royal Mews.

After their wedding service William and Catherine will travel in the 1902 State Landau from Westminster Abbey, along the Processional Route, to Buckingham Palace. In the event of wet weather, the couple will travel in The Glass Coach.

Guest Lists of the Royal Wedding

On 16 and 17 February, three sets of guest lists were sent out in the name of the Queen. As William is not the heir apparent, protocol has dictated that many guests (or their successors in office) who were invited to the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 need not be invited to William's wedding.

More than half of the guests will be family and friends of the couple, though there will be a significant number of Commonwealth leaders

Reception and Private of The Royal Wedding

The Queen will host a lunchtime reception at Buckingham Palace. The reception will start after the arrival carriage with the married couple. It will be a private gathering for guests drawn from the congregation who will represent the couple’s official and private lives. During the Reception, the couple will give an appearance on the Buckingham Palace Balcony. The East front of the palace contains this well-known balcony on which the Royal Family traditionally congregate to greet crowds outside. Guests will be served with canapĂ©s at the Reception. The Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales, the well-known Claire Jones, will perform at the reception. The Reception is expected to finish in the mid-afternoon.

In the evening, The Prince of Wales will give a private dinner, followed by dancing, at Buckingham Palace for the couple and their close friends and family.

Wedding Service Plans ForThe Royal Wedding

St James's Palace announced on 5 January that the ceremony is to start at 11:00 and that Middleton will arrive at the abbey by car rather than by carriage, which is the traditional transport for royal brides. The planned route is along The Mall, through the Horse Guards Parade and down Whitehall to the abbey. After the ceremony, the bridal couple will return along the same route by carriage to a reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The Prince of Wales is to host a private dinner that evening.

More On The Royal Wedding of Will and Kate

The wedding of Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton is scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011. Prince William, who is second in the line of succession to Queen Elizabeth II, first met Middleton in 2001, while he and Middleton were studying at the University of St Andrews. Their engagement, on 20 October 2010, was announced on 16 November 2010. After the wedding, the couple intends to continue residing on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, where Prince William is based as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot.

Engagement and Wedding Made Public

On 16 November 2010 it was announced by Clarence House that William and Middleton are to marry. On 23 November 2010, after much speculation, it was announced the wedding will take place on 29 April 2011 in Westminster Abbey, London and will be a bank holiday in the UK. The engagement ring given to Middleton was the 18 carat sapphire engagement ring of Diana, Princess of Wales. Clarence House, the official residence of Charles and his sons William and Harry, announced on the same day that the couple became engaged in Kenya in October, a fact that Prince William confirmed in a widely circulated television interview beamed from London.

Middleton was formally introduced to public life by William on 24 February 2011, some two and a half months before the wedding when she and William attended a lifeboat naming ceremony in Trearddur, North Wales.

Relationship Between William and Kate

During his years in university, William participated in typical university life, going to bars and socialising with his friends; of himself he said: "I'm not a party animal, despite what some people might think." Like his father before him, William's private life became the subject of tabloid speculation and gossip, especially around his relationship with Kate Middleton, who had been one of William's university flatmates and whom William began dating in 2003.
Middleton attended the Prince's passing-out parade at Sandhurst, marking the first high-profile event that she attended as William's guest. The relationship between Prince William and Middleton was followed so closely that bookmakers took bets on the possibility of a Royal Wedding and the retail chain Woolworths produced memorabilia bearing the likenesses of the two.
Media attention became so intense that William had to make a specific request to the paparazzi that they keep their distance from Middleton and him. In March 2007, Middleton complained of media harassment by the Daily Mirror. It was reported in April 2007 that the couple had split, though in June, Middleton attended a party at Lulworth Army Barracks as the guest of Prince William, and in July the Concert for Diana, which had been organised by Princes William and Harry.
In August, she accompanied William on holiday in the island of Des Roches in the Seychelles, and in October she joined Prince Charles and Prince Harry for a shooting party at Balmoral. In June 2008, along with the Royal Family, Middleton attended William's investiture into the Order of the Garter.

On 19 October 2010, on a trip to Kenya, the 28-year-old prince proposed to Middleton at Lewa game reserve, a favourite spot for Prince William.

The Bride- Catherine Elizabeth Middleton

Catherine Elizabeth "Kate" Middleton (born 9 January 1982) is the fiancée of Prince William of Wales. Their wedding is to take place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey with the day declared a bank holiday in the UK. Middleton grew up in Chapel Row at Bucklebury, Berkshire, and after attending Marlborough College, studied at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William in 2001. They started a relationship, followed by media attention, triggering complaints by Middleton that the media were harassing her. In April 2007, the press reported that William and Middleton had split up.
They continued to be friends and later in 2007 they reunited. Since then, Middleton has attended many high-profile royal events. She has been admired for her fashion sense and has been placed on numerous "best dressed" lists. Since her relationship with Prince William began, Middleton has received widespread media attention and there was much speculation that they would eventually marry. On 16 November 2010, the office of the Prince of Wales at Clarence House announced their engagement. The date and location of the wedding were announced one week later.

The Prince and His Sport

William plays polo for charitable causes and is a fan of football, supporting Aston Villa F.C. In May 2006, he became President of England's Football Association and vice royal patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in February 2007 (supporting the Queen as patron of the WRU). The same year, the WRU's decision to name a new cup for test matches between Wales and South Africa the Prince William Cup caused controversy, with some believing it would have been more fitting to name the trophy after Ray Gravell.

Also in 2006, the Prince, along with other Sandhurst officers, took part in running one mile to support the charity Sport Relief, as he had done in 2004 with a team from Clarence House. In May 2007, William became patron of the English Schools' Swimming Association.

William is a noted follower of various packs of foxhounds throughout England and Wales, including the Duke of Beaufort's Hunt, with his father and brother since he was a very young child.
